Merry Christmas everyone!!
Its that time of year where everything seems to happen at once especially if you are part of a communications team. Firstly well done, and keep going you’re nearly there!
Personally, I would say at times of the year such as Christmas your best asset is your communications team (I know I'm biased but hear me out). Christmas is a unique time of year when people are open to the Christian story and are normally expecting to experience it in some way. From the school nativity to the adverts we see on television most of us have some awareness of the nativity story.
This is perfect for Churches! You have an audience open to the idea of Jesus, a huge tick in the box, and let’s be honest it’s sometimes the hardest box to tick. This means that your audience grows to encompass people who normally would have nothing to do with your Church.
Ok, so back to why your communications team is so important. Well let's think about it for a second: you have a bunch of newly approachable people being bombarded by adverts and other Christmas content that we need to cut through to get to them. Your communications team is the knife that can help your Church accomplish this goal!
This time of year you want to increase what you share, advertise things like carol services, Christmas markets and other things going on around your Church. Share something about the story of advent. Keep it light, friendly, and relaxed; remember the people you are trying to reach are not regular Church goers. For example, a fun video with your youth acting out a scene or a minister sharing his thoughts whilst comparing mincepies. In the run up to Christmas, people tend to be tired and stressed, they come online for an escape. Give them something relaxing and enjoyable and they will be much more likely to engage.
We know that this time of year it is a bit hectic so we have put together a few handy resources to help you over the holidays.
In the pack is some pre-sized social media images along with blank backgrounds size for the most common powerpoint slide sizes.
